Career Activism
Micheal B. Jordan and Bryan Stephenson on the Ellen Degeneres Show, discussing the movie Just Mercy.
How to we progress forward in a world full of suffering people? How do we continue to make change when there are people invested in keeping things as they are? Well, the answer is simple, become a change agent.
A change agent is a person from inside or outside the organization who helps an organization transform itself by focusing on such matters as organizational effectiveness, improvement, and development.
Michael B. Jordan and Just Mercy Inspiration, Bryan Stephenson are both change agents when it comes to racial inequality. Michael, an actor who takes on roles that highlight real figures such as Bryan, & Oscar Grant who’s stories bring awareness to injustice through racism and prejudice in America, to characters like Killmonger, who represents the anger of oppressed people.
Then you have Bryan Stephenson and others doing social work that combats systematic racism. Bryan, being a defense attorney who battles cases that show drastic differentiation in sentencing times and offense charges that people of color and more specifically, black people face when going through the “Justice System” when compared to white offenders.
These two individuals have made it their mission to combat injustice. This is their life’s work. The key to longevity in a career is finding a career where you can do what you are passionate about. Most people hear that and think marketing or being a doctor is an example of that. No. What causes are you passionate about? How can you use your career to bring change towards those cause? That is how you find happiness in a career and in life. That is how you create change. That is how you be some a change agent.
